Commissioner Gamesheet Info Plus Other Info
Being a Commissioner will be different this year. No more statistics keeping as Gamesheet will do it for you. You only have to track the serious issues (see the section on Tracking Issues and Game Flags), make sure you know who is playing (adding alternates & players/coach issues), watch at least one game for each team in your division (easy if you are a parent in your division), preside over scheduling, be the main contact for teams in your division for questions and issues, and watch over playoffs similar to the regular season.
NOTE 1: The DOCUMENTS page (located under the ABOUT tab) has a Commissioner To Do Document and Scheduling Meeting Info. The webmaster will load your Division Schedule but you will be responsible for maintaining it (i.e. if game changes are made). NOTE: Commissioners are responsible for collecting the COACH FORM which requires the Head Coach to sign at the Scheduling Meeting. This form is on the Documents page.
NOTE 2: The information for Managers and Scorekeepers is posted at the link below. You should review this as this information will help Commissioners to answer many common questions. There is also a Frequently Asked Questions Section Below which will be added to thruout the Season.
More Info coming! So check back frequently.
Tracking Issues
The webmaster will be giving the Commissioners Convener privileges which is more than you should need. This will allow you to look at Gamesheets in your Division and add players/Team Staff to teams inyour Division.
Login and go to Completed Games Section. Review the Completed Games and the FLAGS next to them. Games with NO flags are probably not a game you need to look at, unless you get a complaint from a coach or manager. The link below talks about the FLAGS and how to tell what they mean. Note: only the webmaster has privlege to add Flags (despite the instructions you see). SOme examples of FLAGS - Misconduct (including Game Misconducts) for Aggressive Play Tracking, Match Penalty, Player Added at Game Time (you need to investiagte), Player on Suspension, Player returned from Suspension, etc. You can see why this will be so HELPFUL!
How Do I Track the Important Stuff?
See the Worksheet Below for a modified one I kept last year for the 14U Division (10U & 12U Divisions will have much less lines in the Incidents sheet). I will setup Google Docs Sheets for you in October. Note this Excel sheets has two worksheets - one for Incidents (Misconducts, Minor Plus Misconducts, Agressive Play, Major Plus Game Misconducts and Match Penalties) and one for Play/Team Staff Adds and Alternate Adds
Making Game Changes
Whether we like it or not, game changes will occur after we complete Scheduling. The initial Division Schedule will be loaded for you but Commissioners make all changes after the initial schedule is loaded.
Process:
1.) A game change occurs. Either Home Team, the Away Team or the Ice Scheduler makes a change. BOTH teams must agree to the change (make sure they both have by asking via email, keep the emails in case there is a dispute). Its best if they agree on the change and then email you to make the change and BOTH teams are copied on this email. NOTE: If the Ice Scheduler of the Home Org is making the change, teams must be reasonable about agreeing since this is usually beyond everyones control.
2.) The Commissioner logs on, goes to the SCHEDULED GAMES tab, finds the game and makes the change. Instructions below.
How do you edit an existing Scheduled Game?
Edit an individual game on the Dashboard
- Go to View Schedule on the Dashboard
- Search/find the game that needs editing/updating.
- Click on the Blue Home or Blue Visitor team (TBD will be in blue) of the game you want to edit. This will bring up an editable menu.
- Make your changes, and then save.
ADDING PLayers or Team Staff
IMPORTANT: The teams in your division will be loaded by the webmaster using the team's USA Hockey Roster. If they don't have one, they can't play in the game.
Teams may add Players or Team Staff after their roster is loaded by the webmaster. Players register late, Alternates are added (see below for speciall instructions on Alternates), or Teams add Team Staff (Locker Room Monitors, Managers or more Assistant Coaches) as they get their training done.
Teams are supposed to notify you of new Players, Alternates or Team Stafl before their Game Starts. This is so you can add them properly and we don't have lots of duplicates. Most Alternates will be from other Empire Teams in their organization so if we dont do this properly, we will get lots of duplicate players. Players from Travel Teams (i.e. Goalies, note Skaters may not be Alternates!) may be alternates under some circumstances and must be approved by the Commissioners (Horizontal Alternates also must be approved by their Commissioner).
If the player is from another Empire Roster, use the section at the Managing Rosters Link below entitled Adding Existing Players / Coaches from the “Season Roster”
If this is a NEW Player or a Travel Goalie Or Team Staff, use the section Editing an Existing Roster
It is recommended following the Add Existing Players section to search to see if the player already exists before Creating a New Player or Coach.
Adding ALternates
If one of teams has Alternates, they must be designated as "Affiliated Players".
#1 Check the teams USA Hockey Roster and make sure they are listed.
#2 A: If they are (or the team promises "they are pending"), add the player and then change their status to "Affiliated". If they are pending, you will need to make a note, to check later they do get approved onto the USA Hockey Roster.
#2 B: If they are not on the USA Hockey, they need to make this request to their org's Registrar. The kid can not play until he is on the USA Hockey Roster.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Get the Scoresheet?
The Team Manager and Head Coach should get an invitation. If they accept the invitation then they should get the scoresheet emailed to them after the game gets uploaded. NOTE: Team Managers should NOT be inviting more people.
Changing Stats & Scoresheets
- Once the Game is uploaded, NO CHANGES to Goals, Assists or Goalie Stats. We are a Rec League and de emphasize individual stats.
- If a change to a penalty is needed, then it must be made by the webmaster and ONLY with the permission of the Referee Supervisor generally after LiveBarn is reviewed and an error was made. No changes for Minor penalties (do not ask for review). CHANGES ARE VERY RARE.
- Goalie Stats: Shots may be recorded by scorekeepers if they wish. There is no requirement and we will not make changes after uploading.
